Photo I.D. is required to obtain access on Post.

Please arrive early for there is a security checkpoint to gain access into West Point.

 THE BALL

The ball will be held in the Crest Room at Hotel Thayer;

a Victorian hall overlooking the scenic Hudson River.

 

DRESS

Attire appropriate to the Civil War period is required for this ball.

 Gentlemen in uniforms of both sides of that great conflict are welcome.

Gentlemen in civilian dress should ideally be in full

formal wear, consisting of black tailcoat (modern or period)

white or black vest and black trousers.

Frock coats and cutaways are a viable alternative to tailcoats.

 Hats should not be worn in the hall. White gloves should be worn throughout the evening, except when dining or taking refreshments.

 Sidearms and sabres are not allowed on Post.

For the sake of the ladies spurs may not be worn. Heel plates must be covered by heavy tape to protect the floors. Plain modern shoes are a preferable substitute.

 Ladies should ideally be in ball or evening gowns of the style worn in the first half of the 1860’s.

Ladies should wear comfortable dancing shoes with low or no

heels. Wrist-length white gloves should be worn throughout the evening, except when dining or taking refreshments.

Directions:

From Boston/New England and upper Connecticut:

Take I-90 West/Mass Pike to 84 West (Exit 9, Hartford/NYC). Take Rte 32 (Exit 10S toward 9W S/Newburgh). Take the ramp toward Newburgh/West Point. Make a right onto Plank Road/Route 32. Follow Rte 32 to 9W South. Take the 9W South exit to the Second West Point/Highland Falls Exit. **

From Albany:

Take the NYS Thruway South to exit 16. Pass through toll, take the first exit and turn left at light. Follow signs to Rte 6 and Bear Mountain Bridge. Enter traffic circle before the bridge (3rd exit off traffic circle). Take the West Point/Highland Falls exit. **

From NYC and Long Island:

Take the GW Bridge (upper deck) to the Palisades Pkwy North. Take the PIP to the end, follow signs to Bear Mountain /West Point. Proceed to the Bear Mountain traffic circle. Follow signs for Rte 9W North/West Point (3rd exit off circle). Take the West Point/Highland Falls exit.  **

 From New Jersey and points South:

Take I-95N (stay in local lanes rather than express) to Exit 72 toward US-1 S/Fort Lee/US-9 S/Palisades Pkwy/US-46. Turn left onto Fletcher Ave. Bear right onto Palisades Pkwy N.  Take the PIP to the end, follow signs to Bear Mountain /West Point. Proceed to the Bear Mountain traffic circle. Follow signs for Route 9W North/West Point (3rd exit off circle). Take the West Point/Highland Falls exit. **

 From Westchester County and Southern Conn:

Take I-95 to I-287 West, go over the Tappan Zee Bridge. Take exit 13N onto the Palisades Interstate Parkway (PIP) heading North. Take the PIP to the end, follow signs to Bear Mountain /West Point. Proceed to the Bear Mountain traffic circle. Follow signs for Route 9W North/West Point (3rd exit off circle). Take the West Point/Highland Falls exit. **

** Rte 218 Main St. Follow signs towards the West Point Visitors Center until reaching Thayer Gate (South Gate). The Thayer Hotel is just beyond the gate on the right.
